Visual Arts

As God created us in His image, we have a creative spirit within us. At Heartland, the visual art program focuses on bringing that creativity to the surface. Students are encouraged to use problem solving skills to visually express themselves through drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Their art skills and talents are also tapped for outreach within the school (such as helping to decorate for the bookfair, supporting the mission team, and making art for the auction) and within the community (such as pages for the Chamber of Commerce coloring book, placemats for the Way Station Thanksgiving dinner, and window display for the Joy of Christmas drive-thru light show).

ELEMENTARY (K-5th grade) art classes meet once a week to explore various art media and techniques while expressing themselves.

MIDDLE SCHOOL (6th-8th grade) art classes meet 5 days a week for one quarter. 6th grade focus is planned purposeful expression, specifically comparing differing qualities of drawing, printmaking, and watercolor. 7th grade focus is a brief history of art and mimic pieces. 8th grade focus is art careers and hands-on projects related to those careers.

HIGH SCHOOL (9th-12th grades) classes meet daily for the school year. The program offers Art I, Art II, Independent Study in Visual Art, and Theater Art. Art I is a prerequisite for Art II and Theatre Art. Independent Study requires teacher recommendation and successful completion of Art I and Art II.
